The Child Welfare Institute offers workshops and learning opportunities for individuals who are working with children at risk of maltreatment and vulnerable families as well as those who are interested in pursuing a career in these areas. Workshops and training initiatives that are focused on include:

  • Promoting on-the-job competencies;
  • Enhancing clinical skilss in working with at-risk children and families;
  • Realizing evidence based practice and building research capacity;
  • Organizing symposia in specialized topics;
  • Advancing professional development and leadership competencies for front-line practioners and management;
  • Enhancing student placement opportunities;
  • Partnering with Universities and Colleges to provide advanced level training;
  • Fostering on-the-job health and safety and wellness.

The Research & Evaluation team at the Child Welfare Institute provide numerous services related to program evaluation and research:

 The CAST Child Welfare Institute offers customized consultations to address training, client service, program development or organizational issued faced by your Agency. The Institute offers consultation with CAST Alumni, CAST staff as well as Community Professionals based on an assessment of your unique organizational needs. Specialized topics for consultation include but are not limited to:

  • Developing a Peer Support Team
  • Working with LBGT Youth
  • Child Welfare Communication Strategies
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
